The County of Nice, once part of the kingdom of Genoa, has inherited a typical Genoese architecture with its shimmering colors and charming little streets. You can discover this heritage through the Vieux-Nice neighborhood, where are located the Lascaris Palace or the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, the Massena square and even from top of the Castle hill which overlooks the city. Later, during the second half of the XIXᵉ century, the Belle Époque architecture left its marks on the hill of Cimiez with the former Excelsior Regina Palace and also on the Negresco luxury hotel on the Promenade des Anglais .
The city also has a rich cultural heritage thanks to the numerous stays of artists attracted by the gentle way of life on the French Riviera over the centuries. Artists such as Matisse, Chagall, Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Renoir and Cézanne have left their mark on the city and its region. Nice has two major cultural institutions dedicated to painters, the Matisse Museum and the Marc Chagall Museum, as well as the MAMAC (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) in front of which stands the "Tête Carrée" (Squared Head) created by sculptor Sacha Sosno. Many other museums are accessible all along the French Riviera (Picasso in Antibes, Bonnard in Cannes, Cocteau in Menton, Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer, the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul de-Vence...)
At the heart of the city, one can find a "green lung", a promenade that is currently being expanded called the Coulée Verte or the Promenade du Paillon, where you can stroll and cool off on hot days.
Strong of its Genoese influences, Nice's gastronomic tradition is resolutely turned towards Italy. The city has an exceptional culinary wealth and promises true gustatory experiences: socca, farçis niçois, pan bagnat, pissaladière, daube niçoise, chard pie, fried zucchini flower, local olives... And how can we talk about Nice without mentioning its salad famous worldwide : the salade niçoise ? A complete and light meal for hot summer days.
The food markets color the city and are an integral part of the traditions, the most famous and appreciated being the Cours Saleya market. At La Maioneta, we provide epicureans in search of culinary discoveries with our favorite addresses to taste the local gastronomy.
The famous Promenade des Anglais runs along the Baie des Anges and 4.5 kilometers of beaches facing the gentle Mediterranean sea. The coastline is punctuated with pleasant walks and intimate coves.
